Saxophone lessons in Zürich
I love teaching in all formats and ways. From kids to adults, no matter if my students play as a hobby or professionally, we all have in common the same thing: our love for music.
With over a decade of teaching experience, I offer private lessons in Zürich, either at my Studio (8004, Zürich), at the student’s location or online.
As a classical/contemporary saxophonist with a specialization in free improvisation, I incorporate various music styles such as jazz, pop and rock into my lessons according with the students’ wishes.
I can teach soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone.
Example of how I structure my lessons for children:
We usually start with a warm-up: long notes, a simple improvisation (piano & saxophone), or easy scales.
After that, we move on to a saxophone method book, such as Magic Saxophone or A New Tune a Day. These books often come with audio tracks, so we play along with the CD accompaniment or with me on the piano.
Next, we work on individual pieces I prepare for them—for example, Harry Potter, SpongeBob, or their favorite Ed Sheeran song. We also play saxophone duetts.
At the end of each lesson, we decide on the homework together and write it down in a notebook so nothing is forgotten.
An adult lesson might look like this:
We warm up with scales, long notes, improvisation, or imitation exercises.
If we're not using a method book, we go straight into learning pieces. Adults usually tell me what song, piece, or style they'd like to play, and I find it for them. Sometimes the focus is on developing technique, so we spend more time on that.
With adults I keep the structure flexible, while children often benefit from more guidance—this is where method books are especially helpful, as they allow them to progress step by step.
The lessons can be in German, English, Spanish or Catalan.
“I have had the absolute pleasure of learning saxophone under Gemma's guidance, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is not only incredibly talented and experienced in playing the saxophone, but she is also a remarkable teacher for both beginners and advanced students. Her patience and ability to adapt to each student's unique learning curve and progress are truly commendable. She always knows how to challenge me just enough to keep me growing, without making the process overwhelming.
One of Gemma's most outstanding qualities is her ability to motivate her students. She has ignited my passion for the saxophone and has significantly increased my commitment to improving my skills. Her positive attitude and supportive teaching style make every lesson enjoyable and productive.
If you're looking for a saxophone teacher who can provide expert instruction while fostering your love for music, Gemma is the perfect choice.”, Miguel
